Post Study Work Visa: Overview and Procedure

Indian students who have completed their studies in France may be eligible for a post-study work permit known as the “Autorisation Provisoire de Séjour” (APS) or “Temporary Residence Permit.” This permit allows them to stay and work in France temporarily after completing their studies.

Post Study Work Visa: Overview and Procedure

To be eligible for the APS, Indian students must meet certain criteria. Here are some general requirements:

  • Completion of Studies: Indian students must have successfully completed a higher education degree in France, such as a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. degree. The duration of the degree program will vary according to the qualification that you are aiming.
  • Valid Student Residence Permit: Students must possess a valid student residence permit at the time of application for the APS. It is important to maintain legal status throughout your studies in France.
  • Seeking Employment: The APS allows Indian graduates to search for employment opportunities in France. During the permit’s validity period (usually one year), students can work full-time or part-time in jobs related to their field of study.
  • Residence in France: The APS is generally applicable to students who have resided in France continuously during their studies. It is important to have adhered to the residency requirements and not have spent extensive periods outside of France.

What is M1 and M2 in France?

M1 and M2 in France refer to the first and second levels of master’s degrees, respectively. These degrees are part of the higher education system and are offered by universities and other educational institutions in the country.

M1, also known as the first year of the master’s degree, follows the completion of a bachelor’s degree or an equivalent undergraduate program. It typically lasts for one academic year and provides students with advanced knowledge and specialized skills in a specific field of study. During the M1 year, students typically take a combination of coursework, seminars, and research projects to deepen their understanding of their chosen discipline.

Upon successful completion of the M1 program, students can progress to the second year, known as M2. M2 is the final year of the master’s degree and offers more specialized and in-depth study in a particular area. It is designed to further enhance students’ expertise and prepare them for professional careers or further research opportunities. In some cases, M2 programs may require the completion of a research thesis or a substantial project related to the field of study.

M1 and M2 degrees cover a wide range of disciplines, including humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, engineering, business, and more. Each discipline has its own specific requirements and curriculum, which are set by the universities and educational institutions offering the programs.

It’s important to note that the structure and nomenclature of the higher education system may vary across countries. In France, the M1 and M2 system is a common framework used to describe the two-year master’s degree programs.
