My first day at school was quite memorable. I joined Delhi Public School in Class 1 when I was six years old. That morning, I was excited to wear the navy blue uniform, as I loved wearing new clothes.

How did you feel?

When I entered the school, I was daunted. I remember holding my mother’s hand tightly as we walked past the huge peepal tree at the entrance. My class teacher, Mrs. Sharma, greeted us with a warm smile, which helped me be at ease.

What did you do?

During the day, we played an introduction game where we had to say our names and our favorite Indian sweets. I made my first friend, Lakshayj, during lunch when we bonded over our shared love for gulab jamun.

At lunch, I sat next to Vasu, my brother, who shared his homemade aloo paratha with me. We quickly became friends.

This experience taught me that you should take every opportunity that comes your way,

Model Answer 3: Kendriya Vidyalaya

My first day at Kendriya Vidyalaya in Mumbai was an unforgettable experience. I joined Class 1, feeling really irritated at first as I did not understand the idea of uniforms well.

How did you feel?

As I entered the school compound, I was amazed in a second! The size of the building and the number of students- it was huge. The morning assembly, where we sang the national anthem and recited the school prayer, made me feel part of something bigger.

What are some events that you remember?

Our class teacher, Mrs. Desai, introduced herself in both Hindi and English, making everyone feel included. She organized a fun activity where we had to share our names and our favorite festival. I talked about Diwali, which helped me connect with other students with similar interests.

During the lunch break, I met Priya, who offered to share her tiffin of idli and chutney with me. This simple act of kindness made me feel welcome and less nervous.

What did you learn?

From this day, I learned the importance of being open to new experiences and the value of small acts of kindness. Also, I developed a knack for treading on new challenges, as I did not not know earlier how transformative my school journey was going to be.
