STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

People mostly become what they believe themselves to be. If I believe that I cannot do something, it makes me incapable of doing it. But when I believe that I can, then I acquire the ability to do it even if I did not have it in the beginning.

-Mahatma Gandhi

It is one of the quotations, penned by the great Mahatma Gandhi, that motivated me every time I felt like I was tired of hard work. It has been my inspiration ever since I decided to become a mechanical engineer. I have recently completed my undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering at Indraprastha University. Throughout my college years, I have completed a year-long project on an “automated teller machine” along with 3 other members of a company named Gauge Automobiles. I have also done four internships through my college placement cells. I have covered numerous topics in microprocessors such as the Intel 8086, 8086,80386 and their instruction sets along with peripheral devices, the ISA bus, and the 8051 microcontroller. As I kept on doing all the work and involved myself in the same field, my interest grew and made me extremely fascinated with engineering.

I have completed my schooling at the Vivekanand public school in New Delhi. During my school time, my fascination for computers, combined with a strong liking for analytical subjects, started my journey to becoming an engineer. In fact, as a young boy, I would often dismantle my toys and re-model them. The activity never lost its charm as I grew.

After entering my final year of college, I started exploring for a master’s in the same field, when I came to know Germany has the best colleges for engineering. I reached out to A few of my friends and relatives who are pursuing their masters from Germany and got to know more about the exposure, facilities, and wonderful experiences which excited me more towards the universities. I spoke to my parents about it and discussed the plan accordingly. Due to my financial status, it was a bit hard for them to allow me to study abroad. Therefore, I applied for scholarships as well. While pursuing scholarship examinations, I realised that the new path requires new directions. Hence, I started learning the German language. It has been a year since I started learning the language and I have already cleared 3 levels of the course.

It is surely tough to survive and manage everything with all the new changes but effort never fails to disappoint anyone. I understand that my efforts and hard work now will help me to shape a better self in the future. Therefore, I am looking forward to starting my journey in Germany. Another thing I learned about the universities in Germany is that academic excellence is not the only key and felt the true meaning of all work and playing in the form of cultural sports is also extremely popular.

“The Enrichment University” in Germany completely fulfils my criteria and requirements. It has everything that I want in my ideal college. With all the research I did I found out about your excellent faculty, incredible sports meet, cultural activities, foreign delegations, placements, and many more. As I read about the university in detail, its high-demand computer science sector kind of developed my interest in the computer science sector as well. If I get enrolled in the university, I will surely join the computer science cell.

I plan to carry out an advanced study of both computers and engineering as well as all the other related fields. I am not coming there to ace academically but would join any of the ongoing projects in the universities. This will surely help me contribute to the college work and understand which field I desire to pursue specifically. I want to utilise all the time that I will spend in college for the master’s, just like I did with my graduation. I feel the university allows me to do that by providing every bit of the required opportunities that I am looking for.

I am fully aware that the university expects an extremely high standard from its students. On my part, I can assure you that I will fulfil all the roles and responsibilities I will opt for and focus on those with the best of my effort. It will surely be my top priority to build and shape my career in the best way possible through your university.

Yours sincerely

Statement of Purpose

Manav Singh

Sustainability Management

“True education flowers at the intersection between head, heart and hands.”

As Rudolf Steiner fittingly stated, academia’s purpose exceeds rote knowledge acquisition. Germany epitomizes this vision, harmonizing intellectual rigour with a moral purpose aimed at bettering society. Its global leadership in environmental sustainability perfectly illustrates that balance. Having spearheaded efforts to develop clean energy and mitigate climate change, Germany invested over €35 billion towards mitigating climate change and endorsing sustainability by the year 2022 alone.

This inspirational commitment first motivated my interest in sustainable technology during college internships with Indian solar companies like Cleantech Infra and Thermax. Assisting with technical proposals and system optimizations, I realised my penchant and potential for innovating efficiency tools on a global scale. Hence pursuing a Master’s in Sustainability Management at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences will perfectly scaffold my past experiences onto a future of pioneer-level climate impact.

My curiosity for innovating and development led me to India’s National Institute of Solar Energy for a workshop synthesising organic photovoltaic cells. Though a novice experiment, witnessing sunlight morph into electricity proved addicting. I next interned at the Centre for Environment Education, supporting public environmental awareness campaigns, before attending the WWF India Nature Leadership Program.

Each experience illuminated sustainability’s profound complexity as both a technical challenge and an empathetic endeavour. Most meaningfully, by coordinating Chennai Coastal Cleanup events, I discovered effective bonds with communities that amplify ecological messages. This emotional resonance catalyzed my graduation thesis “Scaling Sustainability Through Social Collaboration Platforms” which earned an Institute Silver Medal.

Still, I understood advanced technological expertise is essential to manifesting global change. So I spent two years as Solar Design Lead at Ecowatt Energy Solutions, optimizing public installation yields. Though proud of my progress, I yearned to stretch beyond function alone towards meaning. Recognizing Germany’s trailblazing models, I knew its immersive education could equip me to pay forward its legacy upon returning home.

Thus, I am thrilled to apply for the Sustainability Management program at Rhine-Waal. Its comprehensive approach encompassing technology, ethics and governance perfectly suits my background while propelling development in India’s rapidly growing sustainability sector. Core modules like Environmental Policy, Corporate Social Responsibility and Tools for Sustainable Production will help me become an informed citizen in an increasingly competitive job market. Moreover, I will have access to the university’s renowned bioeconomics lab and the Fraunhofer Project Centre for Energy Economics and Energy System Technology which promises exposure to pioneering solutions.

Upon graduating, I wish to direct community-centric efficiency implementations for India’s Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Partnership division, instituted under the COP26 pledge. Having gained valuable knowledge from one of the most celebrated programs in the world, I firmly believe that my skill set will help various communities and organisations in India. Furthermore, environmental psychology coursework will help optimise public messaging and maximize collective impact.

All in all, this program’s exceptional blend of values and technology makes it the perfect foundation for steering my nation towards a sustainable future. Just as Germany models to the world, I too hope to lead by example, spreading inspiration to empower global harmony between humankind and nature. I appreciate your consideration of my application.

Your sincerely,

Manav Singh
