Recent Changes in Canada's Work Permit Regulations
By Gaurav KandariMarch 12, 2024
Extending Work Permit Length
Canada will allow Indian students to apply for a three-year work permit right after completion of a master's degree, regardless of the duration of the studies, provided that the applicant has done eight months of study.
Eligibility for Shorter Programs
The recent shortening of master's programs for domestic students who could not previously apply for PGWPs has also been accompanied by a prolongation in (PGWPs) work permit period, providing students with better post-graduation job opportunities.
Increased Post Graduation Opportunities
Extended work permit durations serve as instantaneous impetuses for students to start on a master program path, thereby increasing enrollments into master programs.
Enhanced Permanent Residency Prospects
The long-term permit for job search gives graduates a chance to cultivate their workplace knowledge by increasing their likelihood of getting permanent residence in Canada through the extra work permission period.
Ineligibility for Some Students
Indian students going for a diploma or certificate program will no longer fall under the PGWP scheme since September 1, 2024, as such students would not fall under the list of potentials for PGWP.
Work Permits for Spouses
Changing the eligibility rule and adding new policies of work permits which are granted to spouses of international students prevent the hopes of Indian students to get their families to Canada.
